Craig David based 'Rise & Fall' on a sample of Sting's 1993 hit 'Shape Of My Heart', writing lyrics about the trials and tribulations of an artist's career over the first four bars of the song's guitar melody. Craig sent the song to Sting, originally intending only to clear the sample, but this soon turned into a collaboration with Sting singing on the track after relating to the song's essence and meaning. 'To have [Sting's] blessing on the track made the whole thing fall into [place]. It's a perfect highlight for me.' - Craig David
“Not only was Sting amazingly generous and humble, but the ultimate professional who I learned a lot from in the short time we worked together. I remember him saying to me that his daughter was really impressed he was working with me but trust me, I was the one blown away to be working with her father!”
