オリジナル・ヴァージョンは、スティングの1987年のセカンド・スタジオ・アルバム『ナッシング・ライク・ザ・サン』のために書かれ録音された。アメリカで大ヒットしたこの曲は、アニー・レノックスがスティングの2004年の「セイクレッド・ラヴ・ツアー」の北米公演に参加した時にライヴの人気曲となった。毎晩スティングとアニーはそれぞれのセットで演奏したが、この曲ではアニーがスティングのステージに参加し熱唱した。2009年には大ヒット映画『ブリジット・ジョーンズの日記きれそうなわたしの12か月』のサウンドトラックのためにこのヴァージョンを再録音した。

"Every night after I’d completed the first part of the show I’d head back to my dressing room to get ready to get back on stage to sing ‘We’ll be Together Tonight’ with Mr Sting. And every night I’d wait and watch his show backstage until a few songs in, when it was my time to step back on board again.
