Für den Song „Desert Rose“ tat sich Sting mit dem Algerier Cheb Mami zusammen – einem der bedeutendsten Vertreter des Raï (ein für die Region typischer Musikstil), den er einem internationalen Publikum präsentieren wollte. Tatsächlich war „Desert Rose“ schon wenig später ein Welthit. Im Video wurde Sting in einem Jaguar S-Type durch die Mojave-Wüste gefahren, was so gut ankam, dass der Automobilhersteller den Song im Jahr 2000 auch für die eigenen Werbeclips einsetzte. Im Jahr drauf konnte Sting seine „Desert Rose“ beim US-Super Bowl einem Millionenpublikum präsentieren. Auch das dazugehörige Album „Brand New Day“ (1999) wurde so zu einem Riesenerfolg.
